Haunted

For many years, there have been rumours that the Schooner may be haunted. This page simply documents the accounts of professionals who’ve spent time in the Schooner. Draw your own conclusions?

August 2020 – moving glasses

There were two separate, unusual, incidents During August.

The first happened on a Wednesday evening, during the weekly quiz. At a table of four, one guy’s pint of lager fell from the table, landing in his lap. None of the four were touching the table and the guy with the beer was sitting with his arms folded.

A week or so later, towards the end of an evening, two bar staff saw an unattended glass moving across the surface of a table. Even stranger, after thirty seconds or so, the (gin) glass changed direction. There was no vibration from music and the surface wasn’t particularly wet.

31st July 2020 – Northern Ghost Nights

A lot happened this night; the team spent several hours in the pub; mostly in the rooms abouve the pub, but also in the bar, the conservatory and the cellar. Here’s a very brief summary of some of the things they experienced.

In Room 2, a male spirit, David, standing by the window, looking out over the Tyne.

In the same room, a face was seen in a mirror; a man with a thin face and crooked nose. The team also found the presence of a woman, a lady of the night, who’d known the man whose face was seen in the mirror. She’d worked there in the 1800s, from around the age of 15, until her early death at the hands of the man, whose name was possibly Bill.

When walking upstairs, three of the team each experienced pains in their left leg/ankle.

In Room 4, a couple of the team felt their hair being touched. One of the team also experienced stomach cramps, very similar to those experienced by someone previously.

There was a lot more to this visit; the full report is available on request.

12th April 2020 – Michael Highton

This was Michael’s second visit to the Schooner, a vigil lasting several hours. On this occasion, Michael confirmed that the spirits of the two children, found during his first vigil, were still present.

Michael mentioned that, in his last visit, he found that someone had committed suicide in what now is the conservatory. And, in the cellar, he’d encountered a monk, near what used to be a priest hole. We don’t know a lot about the history of the Schooner, but we do know that it replaced a much earlier Inn. We haven’t been able to find when that Inn was built or whether it was predated by any other building.

New encounters were in one of the upstairs rooms; a John Carter and a David (surname unknown). Other names identified were Andrew Newton and Sylvia Grey.

The main room upstairs was found to have the most activity.

Whether you believe in energy existing beyond a person’s death or not, there are events in the Schooner that can’t readily be explained.

As with Les Corney’s visit to the Schooner, we’ve held back some detail.

22nd January 2020 – Les Corney & Shay

After a few years of speculation, the question as to whether the Schooner has any other worldly residents may have been answered. Last night, Les Corney visited the pub, with his dog Shay. Les is a well known clairvoyant who’s appearen on numerous stage shows, a French TV series and MTV’s Charlotte Crosby show.

Les spent a few hours in the Schooner. He found no presence or energy in the bar itself, instead finding that the bar was welcoming and warm. Things changed when Les and Shay explored the rooms upstairs. On several occasions, Shay was visibly uncomfortable when climbing the stairs, preferring to remain on the ground floor. It was easy to jump to the conclusion that Shay had picked up the scent of some of the regular canine visitors to the pub. That would have been the case, of course, but she very clearly didn’t want to go upstairs.

Les set up his equipment, which involved sensors to detect any movement. He took short recordings at various points in his stay; we’ll add these soon.

After a while, Les detected a presence in the largest room, but this quickly disappeared. The same presence was then observed in the small, unused room. This room isn’t comfortable for a lot of people; it’s cold and dark. This observation was witnessed by one of our team, with the entity visible behind Les at one point. It then disappeared again.

Les was certain that this presence was a child. Les’s equipment confirmed this, with the capture of a video of figure of around four feet tall.

Soon after, one of the sensors on the landing, outside the room, was triggered – even though no one was near it at the time. Les used an App on his phone to detect any electromagnetic force (EMF), or energy from any entity. This soon detected a presence, with the energy being converted into sound by the App. There was a sound, a voice. This wasn’t clear, but the App associates the most relevant words to the sound. The first words were So sorry Harriet.

These were followed by others. We’ll not put the full text here in case any future investigators are influenced.

However, there was more that we can talk about. Some time later, Les found activity in the remaining room, visible at the front, right hand side of the pub.

With the aid of Les’s equipment, two entities were visible in the room; the one already seen and a smaller one. Here’s a screenshot.

Later, Les was able to confirm that both were children; Zachary and Harriet. He assures us that these entities are simply residual energy and, as such, aren’t manevolent.

There was a lot more to Les’s visit and we learned some important clues as to the pub’s past history. Other, more modern, names (Lynn and Trevor) were encountered, although no other presences were found. Perhaps these were more recent landlords, residents or customers.

Les’s experiences can be found on Instagram. He can be found under Halo Dimensions. We may write about this again.
