Inside Out

The BBC made a rather excellent programme about the Schooner.

The episode of Inside Out, shown last night, aimed to show how tough things can be for an independent pub.

The episode can be found on the BBC iPlayer. It’s worth watching because it also covers the serious issue of male suicide.

This week’s line-up

Following on from last week’s success, we’ve another great line-up.

Wednesday 4th The famous (well, it’s going to be on TV next week) Schooner quiz. Great people, cool Quizmaster and free food. New quizzers always welcome. 8:30 start.

Friday 6th Barkin’ Billy and the Scrapyard Dogs will be bringing their unique style of rock ‘n’ roll and R&B to the Schooner. Our little pub will be rocking from 8:00!

Saturday 7th Something different for the Schooner, duo Jonny Sax will bring their magic to the pub. These guys will create the right mood by our fireside. 9:00 start.

Sunday 8th Beat Root Jam will be live in the Schooner around six. Expect extreme coolness, great beats and reggae.

This week in the Schooner

We’ve a lot going on in the Schooner this week:

Wednesday 29th The BBC will be filming in the pub all day, from before opening time until after closing. The Schooner will be featuring in the BBC’s Inside Out programme and the Inside Out team are going to film a typical day in the pub. This means that we’ll be open as usual this Wednesday. As regulars will know, Wednesday is the Schooner’s quiz night. The quiz starts at 8:30 and new teams or individuals are always welcome. Before the quiz, we’ll have a short acoustic set from Michael Rolf, 7:00-8:00.

Friday 31st The Odels will be live in the Schooner from 8:00. They’re the best you’ll see in Northern Soul and Motown, so why not check them out.

Saturday 1st The fabulous Palominos are providing the entertainment on Saturday night. Expect 40s swing, 50s rock n roll, 60s beat.

Sunday 2nd Fancy a satisfying Sunday lunch? Remember we serve a fantastic Sunday lunch at a modest price. We’d advise booking if possible; we were full to capacity last week. After a nice meal, what better way to spend the early evening that see the truly talented Russ Tippins perform live. If you’ve not seen him, he’s an incredible musician.

Fizzyfish – Saturday 18th

This Saturday, 18th January, we’ve Fizzyfish, live at eight. This gig will be crammed full of material from Stereophonics, Buzzcocks, Feeder, Hives, Eurthymics, Ram Jam, Guns n Roses, Undertones, Greenday, Muse, Queen, Metallica, Oasis, Blur, Electric 6 Wheatus, Franz Ferdinand, James, Foos, Pulp, Ramones, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, Blink 182 and more! Needless to say, this will be a wonderful night.
